MLB: New York Mets 6, Washington 3

WASHINGTON, April 28 (UPI) -- Daniel Murphy climaxed New York's four-run, ninth-inning rally with a two-run double Wednesday to give the Mets a 6-3 victory over Washington.

It was New York's sixth straight win.

Murphy hit a solo homer in the eighth to forge a 2-2 tie but Washington regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Wilson Ramos.

Sean Burnett (0-1) came on in the ninth to try to nail down the win but he gave up singles to Jason Bay, Ike Davis and Willie Harris to load the bases. Only one of those hits left the infield.

Pinch-hitter Chin-lung Hu then delivered a sacrifice fly with Davis moving up to third on the play. Davis scored the go-ahead run on a groundout by Josh Thole and Jose Reyes was walked intentionally.

That strategy backfired when Murphy doubled home Harris and Reyes to give the Mets a three-run cushion.

Francisco Rodriguez gave up a one-out double in the bottom of the ninth but retired the next two batters for his sixth save.

The win went to Pedro Beato (1-0), who worked the eighth inning. It was his first major league victory.
