MLB: Seattle 10, Detroit 1

DETROIT, April 27 (UPI) -- Justin Smoak hit a three-run homer in the first Wednesday and wound up with five RBI in powering the Seattle Mariners to a 10-1 victory over Detroit.

The Mariners took a 4-1 lead into the ninth and then tacked on a six-run inning that featured a two-run single from Smoak.

Seattle has defeated the Tigers in the first two contests of a three-game series. Three of the Seattle runs were unearned thanks to four Detroit errors.

Eric Bedard (1-4) allowed one run on five hits in seven innings to get the victory. He had piled up an earned run average of 7.71 while losing each of his first four starts.

Justin Verlander (2-3) absorbed the loss, allowing four runs on five hits with eight strikeouts in six innings.
