NHL: Philadelphia 5, Buffalo 2

PHILADELPHIA, April 26 (UPI) -- Danny Briere scored and added an assist Tuesday, sparking Philadelphia to a 5-2 victory over Buffalo and a 4-games-to-3 win in their first-round playoff series.

Briere assisted on Braydon Coburn's goal with 19 seconds left in the first period and his power-play tally 4:45 into the middle frame was the first of two second-period markers that put the Flyers firmly in control at 3-0.

James van Riemsdyk, Ville Leino and Dan Carcillo scored for the Flyers, who rebounded from a 3-games-to-2 deficit in the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series and advanced to the second round.

Brian Boucher turned aside 26-of-28 shots in net for Philadelphia.

Buffalo's Ryan Miller, who was pulled after allowing Leino's goal 2 minutes into the third period, finished with 24 saves. Jhonas Enroth entered and stopped 7-of-8 shots the rest of the way.

Tyler Myers notched a goal and an assist and Brad Boyes scored a goal for the Sabres.
