Goerges stuns Wozniacki in Stuttgart

STUTTGART, Germany, April 24 (UPI) -- Julia Goerges completed her surprising run through the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix with a championship Sunday, upending No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the final.

Germany's Goerges thrilled the partisan Stuttgart crowd with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 decision over Wozniacki, becoming the first German to take the event since Anke Huber's victory in 1994.

The 22-year-old claimed her second career WTA Tour title. She beat Timea Bacsinszky in Bad Gastein last year for her only previous championship.

Goerges also reached the Luxembourg final in 2010 before falling to Roberta Vinci.

Wozniacki, meanwhile, came up short in her bid for a fourth title this year.
