Colsaerts notches first European Tour win

CHENGDU, China, April 24 (UPI) -- Nicolas Colsaerts used a final round of 6-under-par 66 to secure his first European Tour victory Sunday, winning the Volvo China Open by four strokes.

Colsaerts ended the tournament at a 24-under 264, smashing the China Open record by five strokes. Prayad Marksaeng first finished at 19-under in 1996 and Edward Fryatt matched the record in 1998.

"It means a lot. It's fantastic," Colsaerts said. "I've been waiting for this moment for a long time. It was the easiest because birdies were flying all over the place."

Scoring was relatively easy Sunday at the Luxehills International County Club with 14 of the top 15 finishers breaking 70.

That includes Pablo Martin, who had 10 birdies en route to a fourth-round of 9-under 63. Martin finished in a four-way tie with Peter Lawrie (68 Sunday), Danny Lee (65) and Soren Kjeldsen (66) for second at 20-under for the tournament.

Colsaerts played his second bogey-free round of the tournament Sunday. He started with a birdie at the first hole, where he had an eagle Saturday and played at 5-under for the week. He added birdies at Nos. 3 and 7 and made the turn at 3-under. Colsaerts locked up the win with three birdies over Nos. 12-15.
