Halep beats Flipkens to make Morocco final

FES, Morocco, April 23 (UPI) -- Seventh seed Simona Halep of Romania beat Kirsten Flipkens Saturday to advance to the finals at the Moroccan Grand Prix where she will face Alberta Brianti.

Halep knocked off Flipkens 7-5, 6-4 to make the finals in Fes for the second consecutive year.

Brianti had an easier time. Her semifinal match resulted in a forfeit when her opponent, Dinara Safina, fell ill and could not play. Brianti hasn't made a WTA tournament final since 2009 and had not made it past the second round this season until this week.
