MLB: Florida 9, Pittsburgh 5

MIAMI, April 21 (UPI) -- A grand slam homer in the second by Scott Cousins Thursday propelled the Florida Marlins to a 9-5 victory over Pittsburgh.

Florida completed a three-game series sweep, using the long ball to produce all but one of its runs.

The home run by Cousins came with no one out following walks by Gaby Sanchez and Mike Stanton and a single by Greg Dobbs off James McDonald (0-2). A fielder's choice grounder from Hanley Ramirez delivered another run in the second.

Brett Hayes then hit a three-run homer in the third for the Marlins and Stanton hit a solo shot in the fifth that gave Florida a 9-2 cushion.

Chris Volstad (1-1) survived 5 1/3 innings to get the win, allowing five runs on four hits while striking out five.

Pittsburgh accumulated three singles, two walks and a hit batsman in the sixth to score three times.
