STUTTGART, Germany, April 20 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki dropped just three games in winning a second-round match Wednesday at the Porsche Grand Prix tennis tournament in Germany.
Wozniacki won eight consecutive games in one stretch of a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Zuzana Kucova. Wozniacki, despite dropping serve in the match's opening game, lost only 12 points -- five in the second set -- over eight service games.
The other two seeded winners were both pushed to three sets and five seeds were defeated Wednesday.
Second-seeded Vera Zvonareva escaped with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and No. 5-seeded Samantha Stosur defeated Daniela Hantuchova 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in advancing to the quarterfinals.
Agnieszka Radwanska piled up five service breaks in ousting third-seeded Francesca Schiavone and Julia Goerges was moved into the quarterfinals when No. 4-seeded Victoria Azarenka, who won the first set 6-4, retired.
Also Wednesday, Sabine Lisicki beat sixth-seeded Li Na 6-4, 7-5; Andrea Petkovic knocked off No. 7 Jelena Jankovic 3-6, 6-1, 6-3; and Kristina Barrois eliminated eighth-seeded Marion Bartoli 6-4, 6-2.
Thursday's quarterfinals have Stosur playing Zvonareva, Lisicki going against Goerges, Wozniacki facing Petkovic and Radwanska battling Barrois.
