OAKLAND, Calif., April 20 (UPI) -- Kevin Youkilis hit a fourth-inning solo homer to put Boston ahead and the Red Sox went on to register a 5-3 victory over Oakland Wednesday.
Youkilis pulled a 3-2 pitch to left-center field that just cleared the wall and gave the Bosox a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Jed Lowrie added a two-run shot in the sixth and J.D. Drew contributed a bases-empty homer in the next frame as the Red Sox finally logged their first road win of the season and split a two-game series in Oakland.
Clay Buchholz (1-2) allowed one run on six hits and four walks over 5 1/3 innings to earn the victory. Jonathan Papelbon picked up his third save after yielding a run over the game's final 1 1/3 innings.
A's starter Gio Gonzalez (2-1) was tagged for four runs on eight hits over six innings.
Coco Crisp drive in two runs with a solo homer and a single for Oakland.
