BOCA RATON, Fla., April 20 (UPI) -- Authorities say Detroit Tigers player Miguel Cabrera was driving recklessly and forced vehicles off the road before he was arrested in Florida on DUI charges.

Evidence released Tuesday by the State Attorney's Office on Cabrera's Feb. 16 arrest showed two Wal-Mart truck drivers told authorities a black Ranger Rover, which law enforcement later determined was Cabrera's, forced one of their trucks off the road and forced an oncoming car to take "evasive action and (go) totally onto the grass shoulder in order not to hit the sport utility vehicle head-on," TCPalm.com reported.

The driver also reported the SUV, with smoke coming from its hood, had pulled to the side of the road and stopped. That's where a St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office deputy spotted the vehicle and arrested the ballplayer on charges of DUI, two misdemeanor counts of resisting an officer without violence and a citation for open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Cabrera's attorney Michael Kessler filed paperwork to waive his client's appearance at arraignment and entered a written not guilty plea.

A hearing has been set for June 10, TCPalm.com reported.
