The right-hander didn't allow a runner past first base and induced a pair of double-plays in the win. He gave himself all the support he would need with two-run single in the second inning.

Gaby Sanchez drove in two runs with a single in the Marlins' four-run fourth while Mike Dunn and Brian Sanches each tossed a scoreless inning to complete the shutout.

Pittsburgh starter Paul Maholm (0-3) was tagged for six runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings as the Pirates dropped the first of a three-game series against Florida.
