KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 17 (UPI) -- Brendan Ryan's tie-breaking, two-run single in the seventh inning Sunday lifted the Seattle Mariners to a 3-2 victory over Kansas City.

Blake Wood came in to pitch and Ryan greeted him with a line-drive hit to left that chased home both runners.

The big hit made a winner of Michael Pineda (2-1), who held the Royals to one run on three hits over six innings, overcoming four walks while striking out five.

Brandon League notched his third save despite allowing a run in the ninth for the Mariners, who broke a four-game losing streak and salvaged one win in a four-game set at Kaufman Stadium.

Wilson Betemit and Brayan Pena each collected an RBI in the Royals' loss.
