NBA: Miami 98, Atlanta 90

ATLANTA, April 11 (UPI) -- LeBron James poured in 34 points Monday and the Miami Heat clinched the Eastern Conference's second seed with a 98-90 victory over Atlanta.

The Miami win, combined with Boston's overtime loss to Washington Monday, allowed the Heat to outpace the Celtics and lock up the East's No. 2 post-season position.

James grabbed 10 rebounds, distributed seven assists and went 12 of-14 from the free throw line to provide the difference for the Heat.

Dwyane Wade added 21 points to go with six assists and Chris Bosh contributed 15 points and nine rebounds for Miami, which won for the 14th time in 17 games.

Josh Smith led fifth-seeded Atlanta with 17 points and six boards. Leading scorer Joe Johnson was held to 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field.

The Hawks connected on 44.6 percent of their shots from the floor and went 4-of-12 from 3-point territory.
