MLB: Texas 2, Detroit 0

DETROIT, April 11 (UPI) -- Alexi Ogando tossed seven shutout innings Monday and the Texas Rangers improved to 10-1 with a 2-0 victory over Detroit.

Ogando (2-0) yielded only two hits, issuing one walk and striking out four before exiting with a finger callus on his pitching hand.

Darren Oliver took over in the eighth, tossing a scoreless inning, and Neftali Feliz surrendered a two-out double to Ryan Raburn in the ninth before finishing up the shutout with his fourth save.

Michael Young and Mitch Moreland each stroked run-scoring doubles for the defending American League champs, who are off to their best start since 1989.

Detroit starter Justin Verlander (1-1) posted a complete-game loss, surrendering two runs on six hits with one walk while fanning four.

Outfielder Magglio Ordonez left the game with tightness in his right Achilles tendon for the Tigers, who lost for the fourth time in five games.
