Lynx choose UConn's Moore with 1st pick

BRISTOL, Conn., April 11 (UPI) -- University of Connecticut forward Maya Moore was chosen by the Minnesota Lynx with the first overall pick in the WNBA draft Monday.

Moore, considered one of the best women's college basketball players ever, won the Naismith Award in 2009 and 2011 and led the Huskies to a pair of national championships.

The Jefferson City, Mo., native is also one of just seven players in NCAA Division I history to score at least 3,000 points and was named Big East Player of the Year in three of her four seasons at UConn.

The second overall pick went to the Tulsa Shock, who chose 20-year-old Australian center Elizabeth Cambage.

After the Chicago Sky selected Gonzaga guard Courtney Vandersloot with the third pick, the Lynx were up again and chose Xavier forward Amber Harris.
