SAN JOSE, Calif., April 10 (UPI) -- Antti Niemi helped San Jose clinch the second seed in the Western Conference Saturday, stopping 35 shots in the Sharks' 3-1 win over Phoenix.
The Pacific Division-champion Sharks got goals from Logan Couture, Joe Pavelski and Ian White as they wrapped up the regular season with a record of 48-25-9, finishing behind only Vancouver in the West.
Lauri Korpikoski got the only goal for Phoenix, which slipped from the fourth spot in the West and thus lost home-ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs.
Ilya Bryzgalov turned aside 34 shots for the Coyotes, who finished the regular season with a 43-26-13 record.
