NHL: Minnesota 5, Dallas 3

ST. PAUL, Minn., April 10 (UPI) -- Antti Miettinen netted the go-ahead goal in the third period Sunday and the Minnesota Wild dashed Dallas's playoff hopes with a 5-3 win over the Stars.

With the score tied 3-3, the Wild's Mikko Koivu worked the puck to Andrew Brunette behind the Dallas goal, who found Miettinen open to the left of the net.

The Minnesota winger one-timed it home 6:47 in the third and the Wild held on to post only their fourth win in 15 games, knocking the Stars from playoff contention in the season's final regular-season game.

Brad Staubitz, Jared Spurgeon and Colton Gillies also scored and Pierre-Marc Bouchard added an empty-netter for Minnesota.

Jose Theodore stopped 26-of-29 shots for the Wild, who finished out of the playoffs for a third straight year with a 39-35-8 mark.

Dallas, meanwhile, needed a victory to claim the eighth and final Western Conference playoff seed but came up short. The spot went instead to the defending NHL champion Chicago Blackhawks.

Brad Richards, Brenden Morrow and Alex Goligoski found the net for the Stars and Kari Lehtonen made 18 saves in the setback.
