NHL: Pittsburgh 4, N.Y. Islanders 3 (SO)

UNIONDALE, N.Y., April 8 (UPI) -- Chris Kunitz delivered the only shootout goal Friday to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 4-3 decision over the New York Islanders.

The Penguins moved into a share of the Atlantic Conference lead with Philadelphia after the Flyers fell in overtime to Buffalo.

Philadelphia will close out its season Saturday at home against the Islanders while Pittsburgh will conclude its campaign Sunday in Atlanta.

Kunitz put a wrist shot past Al Montoya in the third round to bring the Penguins their third straight win. They have captured seven out of nine.

The Islanders forced overtime when Travis Hamonic scored on a slap shot with 35 seconds to go in regulation. Blake Comeau scored the other two New York goals.

Pittsburgh lost an early 2-0 lead that came about on goals from Mike Rupp and Zbynek Michalek.

Mark Letestu gave the Penguins a 3-2 advantage with 7:39 to go in the third.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 35 saves to get the win. Montoya stopped 35 shots.

When these teams last met Feb. 11, there were 65 penalties assessed for 346 penalty minutes. The Islanders won that game 9-3.
