Colorado starter Esmil Rogers (1-0) allowed four hits and one walk in 7 1/3 innings. He also struck out seven. The Pirates' run came in the first inning when Jose Tabata and Neil Walker opened with singles, after a wild pitch, Tabata scored.

But the Rockies were already up 2-0 when Dexter Fowler scored on an error and Tulowitzki had his sacrifice fly in the top of the first.

After Tulowitzki's third home run of the season made the score 3-0, Colorado added two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Carlos Gonzalez singled in Ryan Spilborghs and scored himself on the double by Tulowitzki in the sixth. The following inning Spilborghs singled in one run and Gonzalez had a sacrifice fly for the other.
