MARBELLA, Spain, April 6 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Victoria Azarenka cruised through a first-round victory Wednesday at the Andalucia Tennis Experience tournament in Spain.
Azarenka, coming off a win in Saturday's WTA final in Miami, didn't drop serve in a 6-2, 6-3 first-round win over Arantxa Parra Santonja. Azarenka won 77 percent of the points on serve and posted breaks in four of Parra Santonja's nine service games.
Anabel Medina Garrigues also won a first-round match, defeating Iveta Benesova 6-0, 6-2. Medina Garrigues cashed in six break-point opportunities in seven receiving games.
Svetlana Kuznetsova, seeded second, took a second-round decision over Agnes Szavay 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, 6-2. After losing the first set, Kuznetsova won 60 percent of the points and lost her serve once the rest of the way.
Dinara Safina posted the lone upset of Wednesday's schedule, defeating fifth-seeded Tsvetana Pironkova 6-3, 6-4. Safina advanced despite eight double faults and three service breaks. However, she won nearly as many (28-29) points off Pironkova's serve as Pironkova did.
