LA mayor speaks to beaten fan's mother

LOS ANGELES, April 4 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Monday he has spoken to the mother of a San Francisco Giants fan who was severely beaten at Dodger Stadium.

Villaraigosa said he spoke to the woman by telephone and assured her police were doing all they can to find the attackers of Bryan Stow, 42, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"I told her I was just heartbroken, and we were going to do everything we can, use every resource to try and find these people and bring them to justice," Villaraigosa told reporters. "I asked if I could visit her son when it was appropriate, and she said that I could."

Stow was put into a medically induced coma after a beating he sustained in the stadium parking lot following last week's season opener between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Giants.

Police say they were looking for two men in connection with the incident.

"The Dodgers will be making an assessment of their security situation, and certainly we'll be weighing in," the mayor said.
