Horsey bests Davies, Van Zyl in playoff

AGADIR, Morocco, April 3 (UPI) -- David Horsey carded a birdie on the second playoff hole Sunday, edging Rhys Davies and Jaco Van Zyl to capture the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco.

Horsey's birdie putt after Van Zyl had saved par from the bunker and Davies narrowly missed a birdie chance allowed him to claim his second European Tour victory after winning last year's BMW International Open.

Horsey and Davies both shot 3-under 69s Sunday and Van Zyl carded a 68 to produce a three-way tie at 13-under 274 in regulation.

Davies had a good chance to win on the first playoff hole but missed a 15-footer for birdie. Van Zyl settled for a two-putt par and Horsey salvaged a par from five feet thanks to a skillful shot from the bunker.

George Coetzee claimed fourth place at 11-under 276 with a 3-under 69 Sunday.

Tied for fifth were Jean-Baptiste Gonnet (67) and Oscar Floren (68) at minus-10.
