NHL: Carolina 4, New York Islanders 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y., April 2 (UPI) -- Joe Corvo scored and added a pair of assists Saturday, helping Carolina keep its playoff hopes alive with a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders.

Cam Ward turned aside 29-of-31 shots for the Hurricanes, who pulled to within a single point of the New York Rangers for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot with five games to play.

Trailing 2-1 entering the final frame, Corvo notched the equalizer 3 minutes into the period and Erik Cole put the Hurricanes ahead only 3 minutes later, scoring off assists from Eric Staal and Corvo.

Staal added an empty-netter for Carolina.

Jesse Joensuu and John Tavares found the net and Al Montoya made 22 saves for the Islanders.
