COL BKB: Oregon 71, Creighton 69

EUGENE, Ore., April 2 (UPI) -- E.J. Singler hit a jump shot with 2 seconds remaining Friday, giving Oregon a 71-69 win over Creighton and the College Basketball Invitation title.

The Ducks won the best-of-three championship series 2-1 with the home team capturing all three contests.

The last of the three games was the most entertaining by far with neither side holding more than a three-point lead during the final 17:30.

Creighton took a 69-67 advantage when Gregory Echenique scored on a slam dunk with 45 seconds to play. Garrett Sim tied it with 32 seconds left on a layup and, after a Creighton miss, Singler hit the game-winning shot.

Joevan Catron hit 11-of-17 shots from the field and scored 29 points to lead the Ducks (21-18), who finished seventh in the Pacific-10 Conference race before losing to Washington in the semifinals of the league tournament.

Creighton (23-16) was paced by Antoine Young with 17 points. The Bluejays were fifth in the Missouri Valley Conference this season and fell in the tournament semifinals to Missouri State.

Creighton was trying to give the Missouri Valley its second post-season championship this year. Wichita State won the National Invitation Tournament title Thursday.
