Davies, Luiten lead Euro Tour in Morocco

AGADIR, Morocco, April 1 (UPI) -- Defending champion Rhys Davies and Joost Luiten share the lead after Friday's second round of the European Tour's Trophee Hassan II tournament in Morocco.

With strong winds affecting play and inflating scores Friday, Davies shot a 1-under 70 while Luiten had a 2-under 69 at the Golf de L'Ocean course. They are at 6-under 137 for the tournament.

Nine players are right behind at 5-under. That group includes Mikko Ilonen who had the round of the day with an 8-under 64 at the Golf du Palais Royal course. Ilonen, who opened with a 3-under 74 Thursday, had a bogey-free round Friday.

First-round leader Peter Lawrie went the other way, following his first-round 8-under 64 with a 5-over 76 Friday. He's tied for 18th at 3-under

The first two rounds of the tournament are split between the par-72 Golf du Palais Royal and the Golf de L'Ocean, which is par 71.

The wind's effect was shown in Luiten's round, which included seven birdies -- including two to open the round and two to close it -- a ninth-hole bogey and double bogeys at No. 3 and 7, both par 3s.
