LOS ANGELES, March 31 (UPI) -- San Francisco Giants left-handed pitcher Barry Zito suffered minor injuries in a two-car accident in West Hollywood.

Zito was examined at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center as a precautionary measure Wednesday evening and released, the Los Angeles Times said.

The accident happened at a red light at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Sunset Plaza Drive.

Few details of the accident, which came a day before the Giants' Opening Day game against the Dodgers, were available. Zito, who posted a 2-1 record and 2.30 ERA in spring training, is scheduled to pitch in the fourth game of the Dodgers-Giants series Sunday night.

A Giants spokesman said he was to undergo an MRI exam Thursday and meet with the team trainer, MLB.com said.
