Swoopes returns to WNBA at 40

TULSA, Okla., March 28 (UPI) -- Forty-year-old Sheryl Swoopes, who played for four WNBA champions, has returned to the league, signing with Tulsa after sitting out for two years.

"We are very happy to have this opportunity to work with Sheryl Swoopes," Shock General Manager and Coach Nolan Richardson said. "We believe that she's bringing her knowledge of the game and competitiveness to our team and I'm really looking forward to working with her."

Swoopes, who was the league's MVP in 2000, 2002 and 2005 and also won three Olympic gold medals, has career averages of 15.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals a game.

"I'm excited and thrilled for the opportunity to come back and be a part of the WNBA again with the Shock," said Swoopes, who previously played for the Houston Comets and Seattle Storm. "With all of my experience and knowledge and everything that I've done over the years, hopefully I'll be able to bring that to Tulsa and help the team win."
