NHL: Atlanta 5, Ottawa 4 (SO)

ATLANTA, March 27 (UPI) -- Andrew Ladd's goal in the fourth round of a shootout Sunday boosted the Atlanta Thrashers to a 5-4 victory over Ottawa.

Ladd faked a backhander and went to the forehand on the game-winner, beating Craig Anderson on the blocker side.

Thrashers netminder Chris Mason then made the advantage hold up by turning aside Ryan Shannon on the Sens' last-chance attempt.

Blake Wheeler and Ben Maxwell notched a goal and an assist apiece and Mason ended up stopping 24-of-28 shots for Atlanta.

Marek Svatos tallied twice and was joined by Chris Neil and Erik Condra in the scoring column for Ottawa.

Anderson was peppered with 47 shots, making 43 saves in the defeat.
