NHL: Pittsburgh 1, New Jersey 0 (SO)

PITTSBURGH, March 25 (UPI) -- James Neal was the only player to score Friday in the Pittsburgh Penguins' 1-0 win over New Jersey and it took him three rounds of the shootout to do it.

The Penguins moved within two points of Philadelphia for the top spot in the Atlantic Division.

Pittsburgh's Marc-Andre Fleury and New Jersey's Martin Brodeur were perfect through three periods and the 5-minute overtime.

Neither side could score over the first two shootout rounds but Neal finally came through by firing a shot just under the crossbar to start the third round. Fleury then stopped Patrik Elias to end the game.

Pittsburgh has won three straight games, all three in a shootout. The Penguins have captured seven out of nine overall.

New Jersey has lost four out of five to slip out of serious playoff contention.

Fleury made 21 saves and Brodeur stopped 26 shots.
