Bernhard Langer out with thumb injury

NEW YORK, March 25 (UPI) -- Two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer will miss at least two months of the Champions Tour season due to thumb surgery, it was announced Friday.

Langer has twice won player-of-the-year honors on the Champions circuit.

The IMG Management Group released a statement Friday saying Langer had suffered an injury to his left thumb in a biking accident.

"Bernhard underwent a successful surgical repair and has recovered well from the procedure," Dr. Andrew Weiland said in the statement. "He will remain immobilized in a splint for five weeks and will begin range of motion exercises afterwards. It is anticipated that he will return to golfing activities in approximately eight weeks. A full recovery is expected."

Langer won the U.S. Senior Open and the British Senior Open on consecutive weekends last summer.
