NHL: San Jose 6, Calgary 3

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 24 (UPI) -- Patrick Marleau and Torrey Mitchell had two goals apiece Wednesday in the San Jose Sharks' 6-3 win over Calgary.

Antti Niemi made 22 saves for the Sharks, who won their fourth in a row and trail Detroit by a single point for the No. 2 slot in the Western Conference playoff race.

Calgary lost for the sixth time in seven games and trails Anaheim by two points in the scramble for the final playoff berth.

Miikka Kiprusoff allowed all six goals on 38 shots. Cory Sarich, Jarome Iginla and Rene Bourque scored for the Flames.

Marleau scored both of his goals in a frantic first period that ended with the Sharks leading 4-2. Bourque cut the Sharks' lead to 4-3 with a goal at 13:20 of the second period, but Mitchell scored his second of the night on a backhander at 15:50 to make it 5-3.

Logan Couture knocked in the lone goal of the third period to close out the scoring.
