NHL: Atlanta 2, New York Islanders 1

UNIONDALE, N.Y., March 24 (UPI) -- Rob Schremp scored the tiebreaking goal against his former team Thursday, lifting the Atlanta Thrashers to a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders.

Schremp produced the final goal of the game with 6:04 to go in the second period and Chris Mason made the lead stand up. Mason had to make just 14 saves in bringing the Thrashers their first win in regulation since Feb. 11.

Atlanta had won just five times during that stretch, four of the victories coming in overtime and the other in a shootout.

The other goal for the Thrashers came from Andrew Ladd. John Tavares produced the only New York tally.

The loss went to Al Montoya, who stopped 32 shots.

Schremp played for the Islanders last year after spending the first three seasons of his career with Edmonton.
