Stanford leads inaugural LPGA event

PHOENIX, March 19 (UPI) -- Angela Stanford shot a 6-under 66 Friday and held a one-stroke lead after one round of the inaugural LPGA Founders Cup.

Although the listed prize money at the event will count in the official LPGA statistics, the players will receive none of it. All of the money will go to the charities of the competitors' choice and many of them have designated the relief efforts in Japan as their charity this week.

Stanford suffered a double bogey at the par-4 eighth at the Desert Ridge Resort course, but then holed her second shot from a bunker for an eagle at the next hole.

Brittany Lincicome and Aree Song shared second place at 67 while Juli Inkster was tied for fourth at 68 with Sophie Gustafson, Nannette Hill, Mina Harigae, Beatriz Recari and Amelia Lewis.
