Norway deports Russian fighter Datsik

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, March 19 (UPI) -- Russian prosecutors said former professional fighter Vyacheslav Datsik was kicked out of Norway over armed-robbery and gun charges.

Datsik, 33, is a one-time "fighting-without-rules" world champion who was known as "Ginger Tarzan" who had sought asylum in Norway in September.

Datsik's bid didn't go far. He was detained while making his application in Oslo because he was packing a loaded gun, Russia's RIA Novosti news service said Saturday.

Russian prosecutors also have an armed robbery charge pending against Datsik. "Vyacheslav Datsik was deported to Russia for prosecution for a crime committed on the territory of the Russian Federation," a spokeswoman for the Prosecutor General's Office said.

RIA Novosti said Datsik had been charged with armed robbery in St. Petersburg in 2007 but was diagnosed as schizophrenic and shipped off to a mental hospital where he escaped and made his way to Norway.

In his asylum application, Datsik claimed he faced torture in a Russian prison.
