COL BKB: Texas 85, Oakland 81

TULSA, Okla., March 18 (UPI) -- Jordan Hamilton and Tristan Thompson each had double-doubles Friday in pacing No. 4-seeded Texas to an 85-81 NCAA tournament victory over the Oakland Grizzlies.

Texas broke open the game with a first-half run that turned into a 10-point lead and pushed its advantage to 16 points in the second half with another run. Those stretches combined to send the Longhorns (28-7) to the tournament's third round Sunday against West Region No. 5-seed Arizona, which edged 12th-seeded Memphis 77-75 later Friday.

Oakland's season ended with a 25-9 record.

The Grizzlies were within 14-13 before Texas posted a 15-6 run, with J'Covan Brown contributing seven points, for a 10-point edge with 8:11 left in the half. The Longhorns scored nine straight points for a 66-44 lead with 13:25 to play.

Oakland made things interesting when Reggie Hamilton hit a jumper and Larry Wright dropped in a 3-pointer that cut the Texas lead to 80-75 with 1:25 to go. But Corey Joseph was able to hit three free throws down the stretch that kept the Grizzles, even with four points in the final 5 seconds, at bay.
