Dodd, Lara share European Tour lead

RAGUSA, Italy, March 17 (UPI) -- Stephen Dodd and Jose Manuel Lara each shot 6-under-par 65 Friday and shared the lead after the first round of the European Tour's Sicilian Open in Italy.

Dodd had an eagle, six birdies and two bogeys at the Donnafugata Golf Resort and Spa while Lara overcame a double bogey and a bogey with nine birdies for his 65.

Raphael Jacquelin had a bogey-free round and Anthony Wall collected six birdies against one bogey in ending the day tied for third at 5-under 66. Four players are tied for fifth at 4-under.

Dodd had the early lead after posting birdies at Nos. 2 and 3. He added a birdie at the seventh hole but bogeyed the ninth. He had another bogey at No. 11 but birdied Nos. 10, 12 and 13. He got to 6-under with an eagle at the par-5, 565-yard 16th hole.

Lara also had a birdie at No. 3 but suffered a double-bogey 6 at the 422-yard fourth hole. He answered with a birdie at the fifth hole and had another birdie at 7. He dropped back to even with a bogey at the eighth hole but had birdies on four of the next five holes.

Lara pulled even with Dodd with birdies at 16 and 17.
