New Pac-12 logo debuts on YouTube

LOS ANGELES, March 16 (UPI) -- The soon-to-be Pac-12 Conference unveiled its new logo Wednesday via a YouTube video.

The logo looks much like the current Pac-10 insignia and will be put into effect July 1 when Utah and Colorado officially become members.

The video is set to techno-pop music and features a montage of buoyant students decked out in jerseys, caps and other gear from their individual schools.

"We wanted to do something creative that allowed some of our student-athletes and fans to give the new logo life," conference Chief Marketing Officer Danette Leighton said in a written statement. "We also wanted to reflect the enthusiasm that all of our institutions have for the Pac-12 becoming a reality this summer."

Leighton said the use of YouTube as a platform for the announcement was an easy one since college students and fans tend to be very active in social media.
