NHL: Phoenix 5, Anaheim 2

ANAHEIM, Calif., March 13 (UPI) -- Lauri Korpikoski scored two goals and Ilya Bryzgalov made 36 stops Sunday in the Phoenix Coyotes' 5-2 win over Anaheim.

Shane Doan added an empty-netter and two assists for the Coyotes, who opened a crucial four-game road trip by strengthening their hold on a Western Conference playoff spot with 83 points.

Bryzgalov improved to 3-3-2 in his last seven starts and was effective against his former team, whom he bested for the fifth time in seven meetings.

Taylor Pyatt and David Schlemko added goals for Phoenix.

The Ducks, meanwhile, blew a chance to pull even with the Coyotes in the tightly packed West and instead remained in 10th place, two points out of the final playoff seed.

Corey Perry scored twice and Dan Ellis yielded four goals on 21 shots for Anaheim before being replaced by Ray Emery in the third period.

Emery turned aside all nine shots he saw.
