NHL: Columbus 3, Carolina 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 12 (UPI) -- Steve Mason stopped 29-of-31 shots for Columbus Saturday and the Blue Jackets broke a seven-game winless streak with a 3-2 decision over Carolina.

Mason blanked the Hurricanes on six power-play tries.

Derek MacKenzie scored in the second period and added an empty-netter, and Samuel Pahlsson added a shorthanded tally for Columbus, which is 1-4-3 in its last eight games.

Jeff Skinner netted a goal and Tuomo Ruutu scored with 35 seconds left to pull the Hurricanes to within one before they fell for the fourth straight time.

Cam Ward made 25 saves for Carolina, which remained two points out of the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
