GREENSBORO, N.C., March 11 (UPI) -- Tyler Zeller made a short shot as time ran out Friday, giving No. 7 North Carolina a come-from-behind 61-59 victory over Miami (Fla.) in the ACC Tournament.
Miami led by 16 with 7:46 to go but North Carolina used a rain of 3-point shots to get back in the game. The Hurricanes went cold from the floor, missing 9-of-10 shots the rest of the way.
North Carolina capitalized, getting within 56-55 with 3:55 on a shot by Zeller. Reggie Johnson answered for Miami but Zeller connected again. Malcolm Grant made it a 2-point game with a free throw but Zeller tied the score -- the first tie since 7-7 -- with a jumper.
The Hurricanes turned the ball over with 22 seconds to go. Miami, with fouls to give, fouled twice and the clock was down to 6 seconds. Kendall Marshall shoveled the ball to Zeller open just to the left of the basket. His shot went through as time expired.
Zeller, who scored North Carolina's final eight points, ended up with 13. Harrison Barnes led the Tar Heels with 18 points. Grant led a balanced Miami attack with 16.
The Tar Heels (25-6) head to the ACC semifinals Saturday against Clemson, which beat Boston College 70-47 Friday. Miami ended up 19-14.
