NEW YORK, March 9 (UPI) -- The U.S. men's soccer team will open play in the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament June 7 in Detroit against the Canadian national team, organizers said.
The match at Ford Field is the first round of a 12-team tournament that will culminate June 25 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

The Americans and Canadians are in Group C along with Panama and the Caribbean nation of Guadeloupe. Group A includes Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Cuba. Group B has Honduras, Guatemala, Jamaica and Grenada.
Mexico opens play June 5 against Costa Rica at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The winner of the championship match will represent CONCACAF in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.
