D-backs' Mora to miss time after car crash

PHOENIX, March 7 (UPI) -- Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Melvin Mora will miss some spring training time after a Phoenix car crash, Manager Kirk Gibson said Monday.

Mora's vehicle was rear-ended Monday morning in a collision on the city's Loop 101 beltway, FoxSportsArizona.com reported.

Gibson said the third baseman -- who signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Diamondbacks during the offseason -- will likely miss a few days of practice and exhibition games.

"He might be out for, not a long time, but a little while," Gibson said. "He got drilled from behind."

Other Diamondbacks players who drove by the accident scene described the damage to Mora's vehicle as fairly severe, the broadcaster reported.

Gibson said the 12-year veteran was examined by team doctors, but no preliminary report on his condition was reported.

Mora batted .285 with seven homers and 45 RBI for the Colorado Rockies last season.
