Roddick's win in the first reverse-singles match handed the Americans an insurmountable 3-1 lead and a date in July's quarterfinals against powerful Spain, which advanced with a win over Belgium this weekend.

The U.S. veteran racked up his 33rd career Davis Cup win, the second most all-time behind John McEnroe's 41.

The United States took a 2-1 advantage Saturday when the doubles team of Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan dispatched Chilean tandem Nicolas Massu and Jorge Aguilar 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
