GLENDALE, Ariz., March 5 (UPI) -- Radim Vrbata got the only goal of a shootout Saturday, capping a Phoenix comeback in which the Coyotes rallied from three down to a 5-4 win over Detroit.
Vrbata faked a forehand, moved to a backhand and roofed it past Detroit's Jimmy Howard in the second round of the shootout to give Phoenix the advantage in the tiebreaker.
Mikkel Boedker, Ray Whitney and Marin Hanzal each scored third-period goals to bring the Coyotes back. Ilya Bryzgalov made 22 saves as Phoenix won for the first time in six games while clinging to the seventh Western Conference playoff spot.
Drew Miller, Johan Franzen, Valtteri Filppula and Darren Helm found the net for the Red Wings and Howard made 32 stops.
