KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, March 3 (UPI) -- Michaella Krajicek came from behind in posting an upset victory Thursday in second-round play of the WTA's BMW Malaysian Open.
Krajicek ousted third-seeded Alisa Kleybanova 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Krajicek won 64 percent of the points on serve on the strength of a 13-ace attack and faced only one break point after the first set. She also backed Kleybanova into 14 break-point situations and won four of them.
The rest of Thursday's schedule played to form with three seeded players advancing to Friday's quarterfinals.
No. 2-seeded Marion Bartoli, who dropped just one game in her first-round match, routed Ekaterina Ivanova 6-2, 6-1. Bartoli lost only 10 points over seven service games. Also, fourth-seeded Jarmila Groth defeated Misaki Doi 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 and No. 5-seeded Lucie Safarova was a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 winner over Dinara Safina.
The quarterfinals have Bartoli going against Safarova while Groth will take on sixth-seeded Ayumi Morita. The matches in the half of the bracket pit Krajicek versus Anne Kremer and No. 8-seeded Bojana Jovanovski against Jelena Dokic.
