TALLAHASSEE, Fla., March 2 (UPI) -- A 3-pointer by freshman Harrison Barnes from the top of the key with 3.1 seconds to play Wednesday gave No. 13 North Carolina a 72-70 win over Florida State.
Two free throws by Derwin Kitchen with 18 seconds remaining put the Seminoles in front 69-68, but the clutch shot from Barnes boosted the Tar Heels to their sixth straight victory.
Kitchen came close to bringing Florida State a victory, but his 3-point attempt in the final second rattled in and out.
Neither side had more than a six-point lead during the contest, which saw the Tar Heels make 6-of-12 from 3-point range and outrebound the Seminoles by nine.
John Henson scored 19 points for North Carolina (23-6, 13-2 Atlantic Coast Conference).
The Seminoles (20-9, 10-5) were led by Kitchen with 13 points.
