DOHA, Qatar, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Vera Zvonareva collected her first title of the year Saturday with a 6-4, 6-4 win over world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the Qatar Ladies Open final.

Zvonareva held serve for a 3-1 lead in the first set and went on to take the initial frame. She broke serve twice and was broken only once in the second set en route to the victory and her 11th career championship.

The Russian improved to 11-16 all-time in finals and raised her career record against Wozniacki to 4-4. Zvonareva made the semifinals last month at the Australian Open as well as at the Pattaya Open in February.

Wozniacki, meanwhile, was breezing through the Qatar field this week, losing only nine games among her first four matches, but she couldn't extend that dominance to the final.

The world No. 1 fell to 13-9 all-time in WTA finals.
