NHL: Edmonton 5, Colorado 1

DENVER, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Devan Dubnyk allowed only a power-play goal in the second period and made 38 saves Wednesday, bringing Edmonton a 5-1 win over Colorado.

It was only the 20th victory of the season for the Oilers, fewest in the NHL. Ottawa won its 21st game earlier in the evening.

Dubnyk bounced back from a difficult outing last Sunday against Anaheim in which he allowed four goals on just 15 shots before being removed from the game.

By the time he gave up his only goal against Colorado, Dubnyk had been staked to a 3-0 lead. Dustin Penner scored the lone first-period goal and Sam Gagner and Taylor Hall added second-period tallies.

Jordan Eberle and Kurtis Foster finished off the scoring in the third, giving Edmonton its second five-goal game in three outings after having had just one during the first six weeks of 2011.

Colorado lost for the 11th time in 12 games. The Avalanche ended a 10-game losing streak on Tuesday against St. Louis.

Brian Elliott took the loss, giving up five goals on 31 shots.
