COL BKB: Brigham Young 84, Colorado St. 76

PROVO, Utah, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Jimmer Fredette paced BYU with 34 points Wednesday and the No. 7 Cougars overcame a poor shooting performance to down Colorado State 84-76.

Fredette, leading the nation in scoring with an average of 27.2 points per game, made just 9-of-26 from the field and the Cougars as a team made only 38 percent. BYU, however, claimed 19 more rebounds than did the Rams.

Brandon Davies had 15 of those rebounds to go with 14 points. The Cougars (26-2, 12-1 Mountain West Conference) have won 16 of 17 since a loss on Dec. 18 to UCLA. BYU is tied for the conference lead with fourth-ranked San Diego State, which will host the Cougars Saturday.

Colorado State (18-9, 8-5) was led by Andy Ogide with 25 points and Adam Nigon with 14.
