NHL: N.Y. Rangers 4, Carolina 3 (SO)

RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Wojtek Wolski tied the game with less than 2 minutes left and then netted the shootout winner Tuesday in the New York Rangers' 4-3 win over Carolina.

Wolski scored in the third round of the tiebreaker after Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist had stopped Jeff Skinner, Jussi Jokinen and Sergei Samsonov, handing the Rangers a crucial win.

Wolski's goal with 1:50 remaining in regulation forged a tie after New York had blown a 2-1 lead in the final frame.

Lundqvist stopped 30-of-33 shots while Brandon Prust and Ryan Callahan also scored for the Rangers, who moved to solidify their hold on the seventh playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Jokinen scored twice and Jay Harrison also found the net for the eighth-place Hurricanes.

Cam Ward was extremely busy in net, stopping 43-of-46 Rangers shots.
